91传媒 data science students have earned national recognition after taking home the Best Overall award at the 2026 Two-Year College (2YC) DataFest, a competition sponsored by the American Statistical Association (ASA).
Hosted in partnership with the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC), DataFest is a rigorous 48-hour competition that challenges student teams to analyze complex, real-world datasets and present actionable insights. This year鈥檚 event brought together a record 28 teams from two-year colleges across the country.
Representing 91传媒, the winning team, Lemon Pepper Bandits, demonstrated exceptional skill in data analysis, collaboration, and presentation. The team was guided by faculty advisor Caroline Hutchings.
During the competition, students were given a surprise industry-based data challenge and tasked with developing solutions over the course of a single weekend. The experience required participants to clean and interpret large, unstructured datasets while working collaboratively under tight deadlines.
Judged by a panel of 15 data science professionals, the 91传媒 team stood out among competitors for their comprehensive analysis and innovative approach, earning them the top honor of Best Overall.
As a result of their achievement, the students have been invited to attend the upcoming fall conference, where they will be formally recognized and presented with their award.
This national win highlights the strength of 91传媒鈥檚 Data Science Program and its commitment to providing students with hands-on, high-impact learning experiences that prepare them for in-demand careers.
